It is the year wrote 1990th The wall was gone, imploded the Soviet bloc. And from the Seattle grunge wave swept over the world. One of the most remarkable, though unfortunately short-lived band projects that time, "Temple of the Dog" - and the CD is still worth hearing.

the grunge-trailers, it was the early 90s, sent as Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by MTV in the endless loop , was quick to factionalism: some idolized Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. Was the other guy just too self-pitying, self-defeating, and confused it. Which were then rather Soundgarden or Pearl Jam - including myself. And if all too soft and too close to the metal, was moved to Alice in Chains or Stone Temple Pilots pure.

Robin Hood, set to music: "I do not mind stealing bread from the mouth of decadence ..."

for less than a year, precisely that year, 1990, in which everything possible and nothing seemed to have closed, with Soundgarden and Pearl Jam grunge two giants of the project, "Temple of the Dog "together with other actors in tert-reaching of the band Mother Love Bone, whose singer had just kicked the bucket only from an overdose of heroin. Because of the large egos, who were on board survived Temple of the Dog is not even a year and a whole concert - that's it. A short glowing, like a shooting star. A flicker in the history of music. The best moments are now not even meant for eternity.

A lasting result of the collaboration was short a CD of the same name, which appeared in 1991 ( and cede.ch be had for a paltry 16.90, in a case! ). Full of songs that were once energetically as "Pushing 'Forward Back "or" Your Saviour ", sometimes disturbingly beautiful and melancholy as" Hunger Strike "," Call me a Dog or "Times of Trouble." Thoughtful and sometimes difficult, as in almost visionary in 1990 to the globalized economy and the alleged venality of salvation (the busy collecting coal television preacher greet with a Hallelujah ...) directed song "Wooden Jesus".

short: A CD that in every well-stocked, is open towards rock library - and then still under the radar of many fans stayed. And a CD, which I like to listen from time to time new items. Not to remember to revel in those years. But because Chris Cornell's voice is combined with Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and the musicians and Mother Love Bone just great class, as well as the texts.

For another Switzerland

At the beginning of the election year, the Left is in a low in opinion polls. No wonder, when you look at the eccentric and aloof campaign see Staring SP. And the media opinion sovereignty of the SVP.

The revision of the party program of the SP was a set back in that same river - and then in all the headlines: the Swiss Social Democrats to sit down again, the overthrow of capitalism to the target. So they have potential Voters in the middle of scared to work without the left wing mobilization. The descent in the polls is hardly surprising.

would this take a grip in the real socialist slogans, mothballs rather indicates that the SP confidently for another Switzerland einsteht as she extols the SVP as the only true and patriotic (not politically) correct.

for a Switzerland

... whose success is based largely on the Immigration and the successful integration, not isolation and containment on. And aware is that, until emigration was still a country 150 years ago.

... as a socially liberal, secular state with a social responsibility to the residents, and that all residents, not just the voters aka the Fholch. And not for a state of the Christian guiding culture and social coldness.

... their most important raw material for well-qualified people with knowledge are several world languages. And that is why as a state of cooperation and not rely on paranoid isolation.

short: For the modern and open, urbane Switzerland, the parties or not to swing on the ball mountain after allegedly lost previous searches roots and thereby has become introverted.

But to be honest: Such a self-conscious campaign, I do not expect the SP. Even if it were the most obvious campaign strategy in the face of increasing urbanization of Switzerland, the Social Democrats have simply not for the eggs.

spring, early

nine degrees, sunny and no wind: In such circumstances, I had to go round again a ride with the bike. And it has paid off - let the season go!

that the thaw has not had stops, was in some "shadow holes": Weyertal was right behind the bridge is still covered by a compact ice sheet - and I am glad I was there, drove slowly uphill and downhill full pelt. So what else could end up in the guardrail.

Even the small creek that crosses the bridge was still frozen hard as nails - and looked more like an ice sculpture than like a watercourse. A good 20 minutes later I reached the hill at the top wagons. And had the same the next reason to whip out the camera.

For the panorama stretched from Hegau and Feldberg of the Bernese Alps, warehouses, Üetliberg and central Swiss Alps to the Churfirsten and Säntis, and in the far East were even a few peaks of the Alps Vorarlberg identify. I tried to tinker six frames a panoramic view - and I think that it has come quite appealing.

Then I went past many weekend trippers, towards Brütten. There, too, the peaks appeared within reach. The snow melt but it prevented me to grin too wide. Instead, her lips were pressed together announced if one did not want to adjust your diet to low-viscosity crystalline wax, at least.

The steep downhill run of Brütten for BMX track in Dättnau was then above all: Slippery and wet. No wonder, the slope is oriented to the northeast and gets so little from sunlight, and according to the muddy turf is usually there. With some sliders, but no real problems, I shot down the valley, while mud, leaves and branches collected on bike.

long time, I had no time to breathe, because I wanted to race cross-Super Prestige series in time to be back home. I could sit and watch Sun with mud on his own knuckles in the live stream, as the big names of the cross scene in Hoogstraten churned through the mud.

After about 80 minutes I was back home, and apart from the first ten minutes I was able to follow the race in Hoogstraten. In short, a successful Sunday afternoon.

The World is a (touch) screen

Electronic gadgets are a growing part of our everyday life - whether as a mobile phone, tablet PC, Media Player, or organizer. And they are made more and more screen, like a stroll through the gadget shows history.

If there is a coefficient of display space and weight would be an electronic gadget, the latter within two and a half decades has changed dramatically. For the first
" mobile phones " offered little more than a monochrone single-line display, but they could terms of dimensions and weight loose touch with a car battery. So I'm also aware of the term cell phone placed in quotation marks and final marks.

As a result, the batteries, thus reducing the weight of things, but the display was more a shooting with only one notch, bleakly monochronic line. Also, the last phone, that triggered before the i-Phones shone a similar hype, yet with a huge multi-color display. We are talking about the Matrix Banana Nokia, the model with the sleek slide fastener. Much housing, little display here.

With the touch-screen smartphones that changed fundamentally: a conventional keyboard was now obsolete (which makes the SMS writing again at the wheel more dangerous). So, the displays were able to grow until they take almost the entire front surface of the device to deliver. This has of course a catch: The first truly durable touch-screen display only come on the market. The new phones are so smart, a unpflegliche treatment they blame a rapidly.

As for the phones is also valid for the portable game consoles: Einstein was not even a third of the screen Front of a device, like the clunky early 90's shows from Lynx. Even the original Game Boy from Nintendo was not significantly different.

Also took in the course of years, the surface of the display constantly to - at Sony's latest versions of the Playstation Portable is the screen most of the front page to complete. Somewhat less extreme, it is in the recent Game Boy variations. Here, Nintendo is likely to impose restraint in order to remain robust in the devices for the target audience enough.

Referring again " iPhone "Notes the designer against the U.S. magazine Newsweek:" The form is almost reduced to nothing, it will be completely replaced by the function. "Even more, this applies to Apple's newest product hype, the" iPad . " to describe its design so as difficult as to describe the shape of a window pane. So Apple had to move from retro-futuristic designs inspired by the 30s and 50s, performed to a complete elimination of the design.

An interesting thought, which leads to the title of this paper back: The World is a touch screen. And it's in your hands.

Stairway to Heaven

Last week I had an appointment at the Public House in Zurich. Already encouraging Away I noticed a concrete staircase that towered from the basement of the church St. Jakob her to heaven.

On the way back I pulled out my camera then to scan the stairs. My immediate association was to - to paraphrase Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven". As I was photographing on, I was approached by a gentleman to see if I already know the installation.

The call is "Stairway to Heaven" and led by a small, public oratory forth into the open. I should like to see the room yet again. As a professed atheist, I turned up his nose, first time - prayer room sounded already decided to believe.

Nevertheless, I ventured a look into the small room in the basement. And was pleasantly surprised, because of crosses with emaciated, suffering no Mannlis turn lane - otherwise of any religious symbols or trinkets.

Instead, natural materials, installed fresh and intensely fragrant accordingly: in particular the base of wood blocks appeared amid the hustle-gray Zurich in January, as another planet. The illuminated spots with rock crystal casts reflections on the walls held in a yellow of the sparsely furnished room, and from the top let in small windows with thick, green glass, a bit of daylight. But just a bit.

In short: even for atheists and religious muffle like me is the little chapel at the City Church of St. Jakob an interesting oasis of calm. Without the cross, altar, or preludes, no religious trinkets. This is good and worth a visit. I think at least.
